Platforms: What we walk and work on

For any job that is done at-height, there needs to be a platform to work off of. Having something safe and sturdy is key to getting the job done efficiently and swiftly. That’s where OSHA scaffold plank, metal plank and walk-board decks come into play. These are essential to a scaffold unit like a brace or a baseplate, so having these are a no brainer. Using these, a scaffold bay is filled out to give a sturdy and safe working platform.

OSHA Scaffold Plank

o   Made from timber, these planks are made from specific kinds of wood and come in different varieties; solid wood planks and laminated planks. Solid wood is cut from a solid piece whereas laminated plank are pieces of wood glued together. Both are used in the same purpose but laminated planks must be stamped by the manufacturer. They are great for running long lengths of working or running platform.

Metal Planks

o   Made from aluminum or steel, these have textured surface to prevent slips and have hooks on the end to rest on the scaffold tubes. Decks come in a variety of lengths, going as long as 10 feet and are typically 9.5 inches wide. A great choice for a stable working platform. These are used more in system scaffolding installations.

Walk-board Decks (Scaffold Decks)

o   Manufactured platforms that consist of two different types; all aluminum or aluminum rails with wood-top. Both are strong and reliable choices. Typically spanning 19 inches in width and can go up to 10 feet in length. They are used more in frame and brace scaffolding.

Platforms are what complete the scaffold. Without the platforms there, you only have a supported structure. Using these platforms we’re able to provide our scaffold with the proper surfaces needed to get the job done without any issue.
